S.P.D. is an acronym for Sensory Processing Disorder and it is common with, although not exclusive to, Autism. People with Sensory Processing Disorder can experience physical pain when exposed to loud noises. Fireworks can also be particularly overwhelming to children with autism due to the loud explosions, bright flashing lights, and burning smells. As an autistic person, I can personally attest to our fragile nervous systems. Unpredictable explosions for weeks on end make our condition even worse and deteriorates our mental health.
