Unintentional Fires
All fireworks are capable of starting other fires unintentionally because they throw off sparks. According to the National Fire Protection Association, fireworks caused over 34,000 unintentional fires in 2024 alone. This includes 3,246 structure fires, 857 vehicle fires, 29,517 outside fires, and caused almost $100 million in property damage. On the Fourth of July, nearly half of all reported fires in the country are due to fireworks. The existence of "recreational explosives" is just lunacy and it puts firefighters in danger when something inevitably goes wrong.
