Wildlife
Wildlife is universally traumatized by fireworks, and are sometimes frightened literally to death. There are countless accounts of birds, horses, and rabbits that have died of fright on nights with heavy fireworks. Birds are often startled into chaotic flight, become disoriented, and their young are left behind to starve. Birds have been witnessed flying so far offshore out of fear that they physically cannot make it back to land. They break their necks blindly flying into buildings and cars when fireworks go off. Horses are deeply sensitive to fireworks and their fight-or-flight response can spark dangerous attempts to escape their enclosures. They crash through fences, break bones, run into roadways, and can even die from stress-induced colic or heart attacks. Rabbits are particularly sensitive creatures with excellent hearing but delicate hearts. Extreme panic in rabbits can cause fatal shock and heart attacks, too. Fireworks are simply cruel to wildlife.
